Byrd's colonist used their knowledge and resources to have a successful colonization of the new world. They learned how to new crops, establish government and created a unity among the people. Bradford's characters fell apart due to a shell shocking experience of arriving in the new world. They did not work together and lost all hope of surviving. They began to die due to starvation and deadly diseases, while not being able to adapt from their religion to survive new surroundings and demands.
